Things to Consider When Applying

The availability of:

  • Time
  • Resources
  • Communication Skills
  • Personal Dedication/Commitment
  • Commitment from Chapter and/or University/College

Being an AISES Student Representative has many rewards. The Representative will be able to:

  • serve as a vital link for communication between chapters, regions, and AISES headquarters.
  • actively participate in further developing and enhancing regional activities;
  • provide ideas, suggestions and new approaches to AISES headquarters and other regions on operational matters;
  • create a network of professionals and students that will continue to grow beyond their term;
  • Representative travel is sponsored by AISES headquarters for attendance at National Conference and Spring Leadership Conference (attendance at other meetings is determined on a case-by-case basis.)

You are encouraged to consult:

  • Your chapter advisor. Talk with your Chapter Advisor about your intention to apply for the National/Regional Student Representative position. Get his/her feedback and determine whether your Advisor will be able to provide you support in this capacity.
  • Former/Current Regional Representatives. Get feedback from current and former regional representatives regarding their experiences and suggestions.
  • Students within your chapter. Discuss your intentions with your fellow chapter members. Listen to their issues and suggestions.
  • Other chapters within your region. Establish contact with other chapters and students within your region prior to National Conference to introduce yourself. Contact your current Regional Representative for a listing of chapters.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA 2.5
  • Sophomore level or higher
  • Current member of AISES with one or more years prior membership
  • Must be present at the AISES National Conference
  • A major in science, mathematics, or engineering is strongly recommended

You must submit the following documents:

  • Completed Student Representative Application
  • Current Unofficial transcripts
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation establishing personal participation in local AISES chapter
  • 250-Word Essay proposing how you would effectively represent your national/regional constituents (please submit via e-mail to the Higher Education Program Manager in Microsoft Word format)

Application Deadline:

Applications for National Student Representative positions must be postmarked by October 15, 2006.

Applications for Regional Student Representative positions must be postmarked thirty (30) days prior to the start date of the applicable 2005 Regional Conference.
