John DeBassige
2005 AISES Promising Engineer/Scientist Award

I was born and raised in San Rafael, NM, a small village south of Grants. My family consists of: wife-Natalie DeBassige, mother-Vicentita (Bessie) DeBassige, father-the late Peter DeBassige Sr., sisters-Elaine DeBassige-D’Amato and Emilia DeBassige, and brother-Peter DeBassige Jr. I spent my high school years at Grants High School and graduated in 1997. I then attended the University of New Mexico and received my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2002. During that time, I became a year round intern at Sandia National Laboratories. I was accepted into Sandia’s One-Year-On-Campus (OYOC) program, and began graduate school at the University of Michigan in September 2002. In June 2003, I completed my M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and returned to Sandia as a Member of the Technical Staff. Since my return, I have had the opportunity to work on projects spanning Nuclear Weapon Critical Component Design to Micro-Electro Mechanical (MEMS) Design. I owe my success to those that have been guides and role models for me along the way, especially, my mother, my sister Elaine, and my professional mentor, Laurence Brown.
